Ratan Tata is deeply mourned all over India by industrialists, celebrities, ministers, and general citizens. His funeral would be attended by Mukesh Ambani and other dignitaries.

Eminent industrialists, politicians, sports and film personalities have offered their condolences on the passing away of Ratan Tata, the former chairman of Tata Group who breathed his last at the age of 86 on Wednesday night.

Confirming his demise, Tata Group chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran stated Ratan Tata was “a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation.”

Social media flooded with heartfelt condolences

Reliance Industries chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani mourned the loss of industrialist and visionary leader Ratan Tata, stating it’s a sad day for the Indian industry and a “big loss” for the country.

“At a personal level, the passing of Ratan Tata has filled me with immense grief as I lost a dear friend. Each of my numerous interactions with him left me inspired and energised and enhanced my respect for the nobility of his character and the fine human values he embodied,” the Reliance chairman said in a statement issued late October 9.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai paid a heartfelt tribute to Ratan Tata, highlighting the latter’s contribution to the country and his remarkable legacy.

In his post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote “He leaves an extraordinary business and philanthropic legacy and was instrumental in mentoring and developing modern business leadership in India. He deeply cared about making India better.” 

Sharing a picture of the visionary leader, the Chairperson of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra wrote, “I am unable to accept the absence of Ratan Tata.” He concluded the post by bidding farewell. “Goodbye and Godspeed, Mr. T.”

The chairperson of RPG Group, Harsh Goenka also expressed his tribute. “The clock has stopped ticking. The Titan passes away. #RatanTata was a beacon of integrity, ethical leadership and philanthropy, who has imprinted an indelible mark on the world of business and beyond.”

PM Modi’s tribute to Tata

PM Narendra Modi also paid tribute to the legendary businessman saying, "Shri Ratan Tata Ji was a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul and an extraordinary human being. He provided stable leadership to one of India’s oldest and most prestigious business houses. At the same time, his contribution went far beyond the boardroom. He endeared himself to several people thanks to his humility, kindness and an unwavering commitment to making our society better.”

Tribute from Tata’s youngest manager

RatanTata's trusted assistant and youngest general manager, 30-year-old Shantanu Naidu also mourned the loss of India’s beloved industrialist on Thursday. Naidu expressed the deep void left by the iconic businessman’s passing.

“The hole that this friendship has now left with me, I will spend the rest of my life trying to fill. Grief is the price to pay for love. Goodbye, my dear lighthouse,” his post read.

Shantanu Naidu’s friendship with Ratan Tata began in 2014 when he created reflective collars to protect stray dogs from being hit by cars at night.

Final rites & Funeral

Ratan Tata’s mortal remains will be at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in south Mumbai until 3.30 pm on Thursday for citizens to pay their respects.  His last rites will be performed in the Worli area of Mumbai later in the day.

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar was among the early visitors at Tata’s residence to pay homage to the celebrated industrialist.

According to sources, Ratan Tata’s funeral would be attended by Mukesh and Anant Ambani, Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy, Aditya Birla Group chairperson Kumar Mangalam Birla, RBI Governor Shashikant Das, industrialist Gautam Adani, ⁠Anand Mahindra, as well as yoga guru ⁠Baba Ramdev among other noted dignitaries.
