Ratan Tata, the respected chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, passed away at a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday at the age of 86.

For the last few days, he had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai.

Ratan Tata Passes Away at 86

Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran expressed deep sorrow over Ratan Tata's passing, saying his contributions shaped India. He stated, "It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr. Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation."

He added that under Ratan Tata's leadership, the Tata Group expanded globally, while always staying true to its values. "Mr. Tata was more than a chairperson. To me, he was a mentor, guide, and friend. He inspired by example. His commitment to excellence, integrity, and innovation helped the Tata Group grow while maintaining its moral compass."

Chandrasekaran also highlighted Tata’s philanthropic efforts, stating, "His dedication to philanthropy and society's development touched millions. From education to healthcare, his initiatives will benefit generations to come. Reinforcing all this was Mr. Tata’s genuine humility in every interaction."

PM Narendra Modi Expresses his Condolences

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, calling Ratan Tata a "visionary business leader, a compassionate soul, and an extraordinary human being." Modi said, "One of the most unique aspects of Shri Ratan Tata Ji was his passion for dreaming big and giving back. He was at the forefront of causes like education, healthcare, and animal welfare."

Modi also shared how enriching his interactions with Tata were. "I would meet him frequently when I was the CM of Gujarat. We would exchange views on diverse issues, and I found his perspectives very enriching. Extremely pained by his passing. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and admirers. Om Shanti," he wrote on X.

Industrialist Anand Mahindra said, "Legends never die," while Gautam Adani added, "India has lost a giant in Ratan Tata. He redefined modern India’s path with integrity, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the greater good."

On October 7, Ratan Tata had released a statement saying he was undergoing routine medical check-ups related to his age, adding that he was in good spirits and there was no need for concern.
