He further added that GAIL is setting up a ₹123 crore unit to generate gas from wet waste, and that the state government has already allotted the land for that.

State-owned GAIL India has signed a tripartite concession agreement on October 16 with the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Ltd (BSWML)  to build a municipal solid waste (MSW)-based compressed biogas (CBG) plant in Bengaluru.

The DCM mentioned it is the first such initiative in Bengaluru, and the government is ready to sign more agreements in this regard.

The plant will initially generate from 300 tonnes of wet waste per day, about 12 tonnes of compressed biogas daily, and 21 tonnes per day of Fermented Organic Manure (FOM).

This will help to reduce the big problem of waste in Bengaluru, Minister Shivakumar said, adding that the gas will be distributed to industries and hotels.

The plant would be set up at the KCDC area in Haralakunte Village, Bengaluru South Taluk, GAIL shared in a statement.

GAIL shares about the plant

“Under the Concession Agreement, GBA will provide 18 acres of land on permissive use basis, and BSWML will supply 300 tons per day of segregated municipal solid waste, which will be processed to produce 12.6 tons per day of CBG,” it said.

The plant will also produce around 22 tons of Fermented Organic Manure (FOM) daily, to establish a circular economy and sustainable agriculture.

The Concession Agreement will be valid for 25 years from the date of commissioning of the project.

The project backs the Government of India’s SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) initiative and the Swachh Bharat Mission, including the goals of circular economy, waste-to-energy, and sustainable agriculture.
