Google launches AI Mode in India for users to ask multi-layered questions at once

Google has officially launched AI Mode in India as a part of a Labs experiment in English. The tech giant first rolled out the AI Mode as an experiment for users in the US and later previewed it at Google I/O 2025.

For the uninitiated, Google AI Mode allows users to ask multi-layered questions, and then the AI kicks in with its reasoning capabilities to provide details and then subsequent links to explore.

The AI Mode brings Google’s most advanced AI search experience to Indian users, starting today, as an experiment through Labs in English.

This new feature uses a custom version of Gemini 2.5 and Google’s proprietary query fan-out technique to handle complex, multi-part queries.

Instead of the previous process of searching multiple terms separately, users can now ask nuanced or layered questions at a time and receive a comprehensive, AI-powered summary with relevant links for deeper exploration.

How to enable and use AI Mode in India

1. Open the Google app on your Android or iOS device.

2. Tap on the Labs icon (available to eligible users).

3. Join the experiment by enabling AI Mode.

4. Once enabled, enter your query through text, tap the mic for voice input, or use the camera for image-based questions.

5. Review the AI-powered overview and links.

6. Ask follow-up questions to go deeper.

Language support

Currently available in English, Google AI Mode is introduced as a Labs experiment so the company can refine the experience based on user feedback.
