Anupam Mittal shared a post by Shaadi.com on LinkedIn that is getting a lot of attention now.

The viral Shaadi.com post

“In the 90s, couples prayed for children but today, many plan not to have any,” the post was captioned.

As claimed by the Shaadi.com post, “It’s called the DINK lifestyle, Double Income, No Kids.”

The post claims that it’s no longer a Western concept as young Indian couples are accepting the idea in growing numbers.

“It’s growing in India at over 30% every year,” it said.

As shared, 65% of newlywed Indians now want to delay or skip having children.

According to the post, rural India is leading this shift.

“42% of rural two-member households fall into this category, almost double that of urban India,” it said.

Why more and more Indian couples are choosing the DINK lifestyle?

However, one might want to probe the reason behind this. The post explained:

Because today’s couples are prioritising:

→ Financial independence

→ Emotional readiness

→ Travel, passion projects, and personal growth

→ And yes, peace, space, and freedom

The Shaadi.com post reasoned that it isn’t rebellion but clarity. “A conscious choice to invest in self, partnership, and purpose before parenting.”

Netizens react

LinkedIn users have hugely appreciated the post shared by the Shaadi.com CEO.

“Because inflation was not that high resources were available at a cheaper price! And today people are more conscious about quality lifestyle,” commented a user.

Another user said, “This is such a refreshing take. It’s not about rejecting parenthood — it’s about being intentional.”

A third user remarked, “This intentional approach towards DINK lifestyle which is a conscious choice to invest in self, partnership and purpose before parenting, reflects the change in lifestyle dynamics.”

"Interesting how the idea of success is evolving in India," shared another individual. "Peace, purpose, and personal growth are finally being seen as valid goals, not just milestones on a checklist."
