Bengaluru is soon to build a Mobility Digital Twin (MDT), an AI-powered, real-time virtual version of the city's roads that learns, predicts, and adapts in real time, according to a Moneycontrol report.

About Bengaluru's Mobility Digital Twin

This new tech will draw live data from vehicles, weather, accidents, events, as well as citizen feedback to help predict and manage traffic before jams happen.

The MDT is the city’s entire mobility ecosystem brought online in a dynamic, AI-powered model.

The Traffic Police have put forward a Rs 1 crore tender for the project, initiating a strong action from reactive traffic control to planned management.

The MDT could be thought of as a real-life version of SimCity, powered by live data streams, predictive AI, and behavioural modelling of how people actually drive.

In contrast to regular traffic apps, the MDT will integrate everything from metro stations and potholes to random processions, anything and everything blocking your route home.

Tools like ASTraM (Actionable Intelligence for Sustainable Traffic Management) and existing traffic simulation systems were already available to Bengaluru Traffic Police.

However, MDT shows in real time how commuters actually move, and the Police won’t have to rely on static models.

If MDT functions across Bengaluru, daily commutes could get faster and less stressful, putting the city alongside other global cities with digital twins for smarter mobility.
