Profit pressure led Swiggy to close down Snacc?

The foodtech company launched Snacc to satisfy the instant cravings of consumers who tend to plan their meals close to mealtime.

Started in January 2025,  the hyper-fast snack app operated in select parts of Bengaluru and Gurugram before shutting down in about a year.

According to an internal communication email reportedly sent on February 19, Snacc’s model did not meet Swiggy's long-term strategic goals.

The internal mail cited by MoneyControl said: "While the product market fit was emerging, the broader economics made it challenging to scale. We want to concentrate all our energies on innovation that drives stronger long-term potential. In line with this, we have taken this decision."

Notably, Swiggy has not yet issued a public statement; only the snack app has disappeared from app stores. Though the company did not disclose how many orders the app was receiving or the revenue it was generating, industry watchers are interpreting the shutdown as a move driven primarily by increasing costs and lack of profitability.

Company statements suggest Snacc employees would be absorbed across other verticals

Swiggy has stated that it will place the affected Snacc employees across other business verticals.

"We are absorbing people under our different businesses and providing them with transition support," the email added.

Incidentally, during the Q3 shareholder letter, Swiggy’s CEO, Sriharsha Majety, had mentioned that they would not maintain a discount-driven approach.

“We have consciously chosen not to participate in deep-discount-driven, purely volume-focused growth that sacrifices AOVs and margins,” Majety said.

During the same period, Swiggy also removed the free delivery claims on Instamart, its quick delivery model.

Snacc's rivals included Bistro by Blinkit and Zepto Cafe, both of which offer ready-to-eat meals and beverages within minutes.
