Meta AI voice translations in 5 Indian languages
At the ‘House of Instagram’ event in Mumbai, Instagram announced that users will be able to leverage Meta AI to translate reels in five Indian languages: Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Marathi. The feature was previously available for English, Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese.
This is the first update with which, if a creator records a Reel in Hindi, they can quickly translate it into Tamil or Bengali so people in other states can understand it.
All details about Instagram's translation feature
Instagram says the translations keep your original voice quality. It is even providing an optional lip-sync feature to adjust your mouth movements to match the translated audio.
This makes the video look like you actually recorded it in that language. In a multilingual country, this update could help creators expand their reach.
Instagram's second update
The second update is Instagram’s editing tools with new Indian fonts. Users will soon find fonts in Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese scripts.
This means a user can write captions or add text in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali or Assamese in a style that actually looks native to the language. If your phone is already set to an Indian language, Instagram will automatically show you those fonts first. The rollout will start with Android users shortly.
Interestingly, Instagram recently added AI restyling for photos and videos, better editing tools, bulk caption edits, video reversing and more sound effects. Additionally, the lip-sync tool can animate still images.
With the language tools and fonts, Instagram is taking a step toward making the platform more effective for India’s huge and diverse creator community.
