Radhika Gupta, Shark Tank India Judge and CEO of Edelweiss Mutual Fund has sparked a debate on X with her verdict on the cause of depression among youth.
She was responding to X user ‘@billionair_key’ who recently asked a question in a post.
In your opinion, why do you think so many young people are depressed?

According to Gupta, the problem lies with our pretentiousness on Instagram.
The pressure of being someone because their life looks cool on Instagram, rather than being your unique self. https://t.co/HMn7xRCekG

Instagram Causes Depression?
To be fair, we can’t disagree with Gupta.
Several studies have found a strong link between heavy social media and an increased risk for depression.
A study published by Guilford Press Periodicals tracked 143 undergraduates at the University of Pennsylvania. They were randomly divided into two groups: one was instructed to restrict their use of Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat to 10 minutes per platform per day, while the other group continued to use social media as usual for three weeks. The findings suggested the group with restricted use showed notable decreases in feelings of loneliness and depression.
All credit to Radhika Gupta for regularly voicing sharp insights on social media about mental, financial, and social problems.
