Perplexity AI co-founder Aravind Srinivas announced a new feature that will allow users to schedule tasks on WhatsApp.

“You can now schedule tasks with Perplexity on WhatsApp,” Srinivas wrote on LinkedIn. “This is the first time you get to feel a basic “assistant” on WhatsApp that sends you periodic news alerts, custom reminders at a frequency you set all in simple natural language.”

Perplexity AI to give WhatsApp task scheduling support

For instance, users can ask the AI chatbot to remind them to turn off the AC in one hour or ask it to send updates about something they are interested in whenever they want. Srinivas shared a video tutorial to show how the AI chatbot will remind users of daily tasks by sending a text message on WhatsApp.

To use Perplexity on WhatsApp, one has to add +1 (833) 436-3285 to their contacts and open the instant messaging service app on their preferred device.

Next, the user will be talking to the AI chatbot without having to install any additional apps.

Perplexity on WhatsApp allows users to answer questions, research topics, generate custom images and summarise content, to name a few tasks. The AI chatbot is also available on Telegram under the name “askplexbot.”

Compared to the native app, Perplexity’s WhatsApp integration is a great initiative, as users on the platform do not have to sign up or log in to use the service.

Last month, Aravind Srinivas disclosed that they were planning to add more features to the WhatsApp version of the chatbot.

Some of these include a voice mode, memes, videos, fact-checking capabilities, and the newly introduced assistant functionalities etc.

The AI startup also recently upgraded its chatbot on social media platform X with new video capabilities for users to generate eight-second clips with sound using generative AI.

Incidentally, Apple and Meta have been reported to be considering acquiring Perplexity AI.
