Aravind Srinivas reveals how Comet AI browser can change hiring

In a CNBC interview, he disclosed that the browser is more than just a search tool. The Comet AI browser is designed to automate complex research and analysis tasks to an extent that it could completely change the hiring process.

“Instead of hiring one more person on your team, you could just use Comet to supplement all the work that you’re doing,” Srinivas said.

The browser was rolled out in July and was previously limited to a waitlist and Perplexity Max subscribers.

The Comet AI is a Large Language Model (LLM)-based browser equipped with an in-built AI agent.

According to Perplexity, Comet is capable of autonomously browsing the web, gathering information, and performing in-depth research to assist users.

Srinivas said that in the future, AI will operate even while users sleep, proactively managing emails, scheduling meetings, and reorganising tasks.

“The future is AIs that are just doing work for you, even as you sleep, without you even asking for it,” he remarked.

From generating summaries of articles and YouTube videos to describing images and providing AI-generated overviews of all open tabs in the browser, Srinivas said it is a ‘true personal assistant’.

He predicted that the increase in productivity brought by Comet could be worth an estimated $10,000 per year for a single user.

Srinivas further remarked that a mere 20 per cent gain in the global “human digital knowledge work” contributes about $25 trillion to the GDP, which could result in a $5 trillion increase in global GDP growth.

The Perplexity CEO said the browser is a ‘true personal assistant,’ predicting that the increase in productivity brought by Comet could be worth an estimated $10,000 per year for a single user.

“It’s not just about answering questions from a sycophant chatbot that tells you good stuff you want to hear. It’s about delivering value and you being able to delegate tasks,” he said.

Incidentally, Comet Plus has a subscription plan for both humans and AI systems to access premium news content. Launch partners include major outlets such as The Washington Post, CNN, Condé Nast (The New Yorker, Wired, Vogue), Fortune, and Le Monde.
