Albinder Dhindsa, CEO of Zomato-owned quick commerce platform Blinkit said in a recent interview that the sector has scope for more players.

Blinkit's Albinder Dhindsa hopeful about quick commerce market

In an exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the quick commerce startup founder said the Indian market is large enough to provide space for seven to eight players in the short term. Eventually, more specialised and sector-focused players are likely to emerge over time.

Comparing the quick commerce sector with the e-commerce industry, Dhindsa reasoned that quick commerce has the scope to co-exist just like horizontal platforms like Flipkart and niche fashion platforms such as Myntra.

Sector-focused companies will concentrate their offerings on specific use cases and create their niches in the quick commerce space, Dhindsa added.

He shared his belief that quick commerce players would specifically cater to diverse segments, geographic areas, and product categories.

Dhindsa’s Blinkit has already launched new verticals like the 10-minute food delivery and the 10-minute ambulance services.

The Blinkit boss disclosed not engaging in price wars though, as he believes it to be an unsustainable strategy. He shared his company’s plans to grow through market expansion and investing in infrastructure.

“We’ve proved Blinkit can be profitable,” Dhindsa remarked in the interview.

He shared the brand’s strategy to expand warehousing and improve inter-city supply chains to reach tier-3 and tier-4 cities.

“We are investing for five years ahead, setting up the groundwork today for where our network will expand in the future,” the Blinkit CEO added. [Source: CNBC TV18]
