Zomato’s quick commerce segment, Blinkit, has newly launched 'Bistro', a food delivery app that promises to deliver snacks and other food items in just 10 minutes. This move from Blinkit is to compete with Zepto in the quick food delivery space. Zepto recently announced rolling out a separate app for Cafe, its food delivery business.

A Second Attempt at Quick Food Delivery

Zomato had previously experimented with a quick food delivery service called Instant in 2022, but unfortunately, it was shut down in 2023. Now, with the launch of Bistro, Blinkit is making a second attempt at providing customers with fast and convenient food delivery services.

Redefining Convenience with Speed

"Our mission is to redefine convenience with superfast delivery, helping consumers across India save time while enjoying seamless, high-quality experiences," states the company's website. This commitment is evident in the launch of Bistro, aiming to cater to the growing demand for quick and convenient food delivery services.

The Rise of Quick Commerce

Quick commerce companies like Blinkit and Zepto have seen rapid expansion in recent years, transitioning from delivering groceries to offering a wide range of products, including apparel and medicines.

The introduction of 10-minute food delivery services is seen as a strategic move to tap into additional revenue streams and drive further growth in the industry.

Competition and Innovation

On the other hand, Swiggy has already rolled out a similar service called "Bolt" in over 400 Indian cities. The competition is heating up in the quick commerce space as companies vie for market share and customer loyalty.

In a recent interview, Zomato’s CEO Deepinder Goyal said, “Blinkit is fast, but that has made Zomato seem slow. In some areas, we take 40 minutes to deliver and 40 minutes is very, very slow…So customer expectation is moving, and food delivery will have to change."

He also shared that 10-minute food can “change the game if we get it right”.

The initial results of Blinkit's Bistro and Zepto Cafe have been promising, with high order volumes from customers. As the demand for quick food delivery services continues to rise, companies are doubling down on innovation to meet the evolving needs of consumers.
