Bhumi Pednekar launches BACKBAY
Bollywood actor Bhumi Pednekar, along with her sister, lawyer-turned-entrepreneur Samiksha Pednekar, is launching Backbay, a next-generation beverage brand.
About Bhumi Pednekar's Backbay
Scheduled to be launched on 28th August, Backbay Aqua is suited for the modern Indian lifestyle.
The Pednekar sisters introduced their brand on social media, saying it is natural mineral water, bottled at source in the Himalayan foothills.
Rich in naturally occurring minerals and electrolytes, Backbay comes in sleek, planet-conscious cartons—designed as a bold, sustainable alternative to traditional PET packaging.
It is aimed at a new generation of mindful consumers who seek purpose, purity, and intentionality in their everyday choices.
Originating as glacial melt, water gradually filters through mineral-rich formations, absorbing naturally occurring magnesium, calcium, and potassium.
The brand procures water from a protected Himalayan reservoir and bottled in a women-led facility in Himachal Pradesh. The brand claims to deliver clean, naturally alkaline mineral water designed to nourish the body and soul.
“I’ve always been conscious of what I consume and how it impacts my health and the environment,” says Bhumi Pednekar.
She further said that when she looked at the bottled water space, it felt outdated and lacking in trust.
“Despite being the most essential beverage, water hasn’t seen meaningful innovation,” the actor said.
As most water comes in plastic, and the alternatives are either expensive or inaccessible, it made them rethink how water should be sourced, packaged, and experienced.
“That’s how Backbay began,” claims Bhumi Pednekar. “Every choice we’ve made reflects our values of integrity, sustainability, and long-term impact. Backbay is not just a product. It is a cleaner, safer choice - one that prioritises people and the planet.”
"Backbay won't just be a water brand but a premium beverage brand with more line of products being under R & D. Speaking to Business Today, Samiksha shared, "We also have sparkling water in the line with three flavours: Lichi, Peach and Lime."
In a recent interview with Business Today, Bhumi shared that her water brand has been priced at ₹150 for a 500ml pack and ₹200 for a 750ml pack to ensure it is “accessible to people.”
Her statement immediately received backlash.
Netizens react
Sharing the news of the brand launch, someone wrote on Reddit, “Bhumi Pednekar thinks ₹200 water is ‘accessible’… bless her Bollywood bubble.”
Reacting to it, a user commented, "I was just thinking tap water isn’t doing it for me anymore. Thank you Bhumi."
“All the best to her for launching overpriced water,” remarked another user.
One user said, “Paani kam Amul ka tetrapack zyaada lag raha hai (The packaging looks like Amul's tetra pack).”
Someone else wrote, “Bless her scamming heart.”
“Being delulu is not the solulu,” yet another said.
