Indian navigation app, Mappls, developed by MapmyIndia, is being strongly pushed by the government as a Swadeshi alternative to Google Maps.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently shared a video of himself using Mappls, describing it as “a must-try” for Indian users.
Features of Mappls
In the video, he displayed the apps’ ability to provide three-dimensional junction views or previews of flyovers, underpasses, and roundabouts, and real-time driving alerts for speed limits, accident-prone spots, sharp curves, speed breakers, traffic signals, and traffic camera locations.
Mappls also assists users in calculating the cost of trips based on the vehicle and fuel type, including tolls for specific journeys, and is integrated with the Fastag Annual Pass.
It helps users stay within speed limits and avoid risky patches.
The other key features of the homegrown navigation app Mappls include the 3D Junction Views, in which the user gets three-dimensional previews of flyovers, underpasses, and roundabouts, which Minister Vaishnaw lauded.
Ashwini Vaishnaw praises Mappls on social media
Vaishnaw wrote, “Mappls by MapmyIndia is a great swadeshi app. Let’s use more such apps and support our own ecosystem.”
MapmyIndia responded, “Thank you Hon’ble Minister @AshwiniVaishnaw ji for your kind words and support for #Swadeshi #Aatmanirbhar apps like #Mappls. We are committed to building world-class indigenous technology for India and the world.”

Mappls share prices soar
Shares of CE Info Systems, which operates MapmyIndia, on Monday jumped over 8% to Rs 1,847 on BSE after the Railway Minister endorsed Mappls to Indian citizens.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru is the first city to navigate live traffic signal countdowns on the Mappls app, providing commuters with real-time updates on signal timings directly within the interface.
