Elon Musk's Grok AI rolls out 'Spicy Mode'
Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI has introduced a new feature for its Grok chatbot called Grok Imagine, allowing users to turn text and images into short AI-generated videos.
Spicy Mode from Grok Imagine
Among Grok Imagine’s four animation styles is a controversial 'Spicy' mode that allows NSFW content, including nudity and sexually explicit videos.
The tool is now available to all SuperGrok and Premium+ subscribers on X’s iOS app.
Just by typing a prompt, users can generate a 15-second video with native audio, including partially nude or risqué visuals.
While content restrictions are in place, many explicit prompts would generate blurred or moderated images. Bikini-clad figures and semi-nude imagery are reportedly making it through.
Last month, Elon Musk’s company introduced an anime-inspired AI companion with a hyper-sexualised vibe.
Musk has always pitched Grok as an "unfiltered" alternative to other chatbots, and it appears that the image generator is proving his words.
The “spicy mode” feature was first mentioned by xAI employee Mati Roy, who posted about it on X, saying it could generate nudity. That post was deleted, but the feature has been rolled out in reality and is creating controversies.
How Grok Imagine's Spicy Mode works?
It allows users to generate images with text prompts or upload one for transformation into short videos with sound.
Step 1: Users have to visit the websitehere, and a simple sign-in will be required to use the beta version.
Step 2: Once an image is uploaded, it can be animated in one of the following four modes: Custom, Normal, Fun, or the explicit Spicy variant.
Step 3: Spicy mode ranges from sexually suggestive visuals from bikini-clad figures to fully nude content, including photorealistic depictions.
Creating explicit AI videos of celebs
For those who are unaware, popular video creation tools such as OpenAI Sora and Google Veo restrict NSFW content and celebrity deepfakes. However, Grok Imagine allegedly bypass these controls.
According to The Verge, the tool created revealing videos resembling popstar Taylor Swift instantly, with little user input and no age verification during installation.
Although a birth year prompt appears before using the “spicy” mode, it is easily avoided, raising concerns about online safety standards, especially in regions with stringent age-gating regulations.
The newly launched Spicy Mode comes with a meek warning, "Please do not generate or spread content that violates local laws and morals."
However, many users are not paying heed to the warning.
Though the Grok Imagine feature including the Spicy Mode is now available only to paid subscribers, it could be widely available soon leading to massive misuse.
