Amazon has announced AI smart glasses just a day after Samsung launched its Galaxy XR headset and declared plans to introduce AI-powered glasses.

However, the American e-commerce company’s newly introduced smart glasses are for the delivery drivers.

Amazon shared that its smart delivery glasses come with built-in AI capabilities to help delivery agents scan packages, get turn-by-turn navigation, capture proof of delivery, and more assuring hands-free, safe travel.

All about Amazon's AI smart glasses

The “Amelia” glasses feature a built-in camera and heads-up display, with a controller worn in the driver’s vest that has a button to be pressed for taking photos of deliveries.

The glasses can provide easy-to-follow directions in complex locations, such as multi-unit apartment buildings and business complexes.

What’s more, the glasses can support prescription lenses and transitional lenses that automatically adjust to light.

Equipped with built-in cameras and AI-powered computer vision, the AI glasses can notice surroundings and alert drivers to potential hazards.

Currently, the glasses focus on hands-free navigation and package management, but future versions are expected to include more advanced AI capabilities.

According to Amazon, upcoming models may be able to detect misdelivered packages by verifying addresses, identify environmental hazards like low light or pets in the yard, and even adjust lens brightness automatically.

While Amazon is still experimenting with the smart glasses, it plans to roll out the glasses first to drivers in North America and then to a wider base globally.
