DRDO completes user trials of Akash-NG
India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has completed the User Evaluation Trials of the Next Generation Akash (Akash-NG) surface-to-air missile system, taking a crucial step toward strengthening the country’s air defence capabilities.
All about DRDO's user trials of the Akash-NG missile system
As shared by DRDO, Akash-NG, equipped with an indigenous RF seeker and propelled by a solid rocket motor, is a potent system for ensuring air defence against different types of aerial threats. User evaluation trials of the Akash NG missile were completed on December 23, meeting all PSQR requirements.
During the trials, the missiles successfully intercepted aerial targets at various ranges and altitudes, including near-boundary, low-altitude, and long-range, high-altitude scenarios.
All of this was done to validate the missile’s performance under diverse operational conditions.
The Akash-NG system is equipped with an indigenous Radio Frequency seeker and powered by a solid rocket motor.
Designed to combat a wide spectrum of aerial threats, including fighter aircraft, cruise missiles, and other airborne platforms, the system is a highly potent air defence solution for India’s armed forces.
DRDO stated that all major systems and sub-systems of Akash-NG have been designed and built by multiple DRDO laboratories in collaboration with Indian industry partners.
