Zoho cofounder Sridhar Vembu said that India’s journey to becoming a global technological powerhouse will not be driven by apps alone, but by something far more fundamental: the ability to design and manufacture its own capital goods at low cost.

Vembu shared this perspective while responding to a post on X by Vishakh Ranotra, the founder of Indian manufacturing firm Ranoson, who announced a key milestone for his company.

Ranotra revealed that Ranoson had deployed its fourth CNC machine, engineered entirely in-house, as a move to stay away from depending on imported machinery.

CNC machines play a crucial role in precision manufacturing and are widely used across industries.

“Today, for this particular capacity, we operate more machines of our own design than imported ones. That shift wasn't overnight, and it didn't come cheap. But it was worth it. Many more to come,” Ranotra wrote on X.

Vembu praised the achievement.

“The best craftsmen make their own tools. The path to Bharat's rise as an economic and technological power is through capital goods, custom-designed and low-cost,” the Zoho boss replied.

According to Vembu, affordability is key. By keeping costs low while designing and producing capital goods domestically, Indian manufacturers can gain a decisive edge over foreign competitors.

Such an approach would not only boost local industry but also create a strong foundation for innovation across sectors.
