Aman Gupta, the cofounder of consumer electronics brand boAt, on Tuesday announced the launch of a new venture, Offbeat Studios, marking his return to active entrepreneurship months after stepping into a non-executive role at the company.

The move comes shortly after Gupta transitioned to a non-executive director position on boAt’s board in September last year, signalling a shift away from day-to-day operations.
In a post on X, he hinted at a fresh start without revealing specifics about the new venture.
“With every birthday, some grow older, I grow bolder. I am still hungry, still impatient and still driven. Aman 2.0 begins soon. Introducing my new venture,” Gupta wrote.
His announcement follows a broader leadership reshuffle at Imagine Marketing, boAt’s parent entity.
Sameer Mehta, cofounder and CEO of Imagine Marketing, transitioned to the role of executive director, while chief operating officer Gaurav Nayyar took over as CEO.
The leadership changes unfolded at a crucial juncture for the Warburg Pincus-backed company, which had been preparing for a public listing. However, boAt’s IPO plans faced scrutiny after statutory auditors flagged discrepancies between quarterly statements submitted to lenders and the company’s books of account.
According to its updated draft prospectus, boAt was looking to raise Rs 1,500 crore through the public issue, including Rs 500 crore in fresh shares and an offer for sale of Rs 1,000 crore by existing investors. The company has since reportedly deferred its IPO plans.
Financially, boAt reported a turnaround in profitability for FY25, posting a net profit of over Rs 60 crore compared with a net loss of Rs 80 crore in the previous year.
However, consolidated revenue dipped marginally to Rs 3,098 crore from Rs 3,122 crore year-on-year.
Gupta’s new venture, Offbeat Studios, adds to a growing trend of founders stepping back from operational roles at their original startups to pursue fresh opportunities.
