Deepinder Goyal has shared that Zomato is set to rebrand itself as “Eternal.”

In a letter to shareholders, he said that the revised name is for the company and not for the brand/app.

The Zomato CEO took to LinkedIn to share a post. He wrote, “Announcement” and then attached a link to a letter in a PDF format.

In his letter, Goyal stated that becoming the first tech startup in India to make it to the Sensex brings with it a moment of reflection.

“RESPONSIBILITY TOWARDS PEOPLE”

The Zomato CEO wrote, “Becoming the first startup in India to make it to the Sensex is a moment of pride and also a moment of reflection, bringing with it heightened sense of responsibility — responsibility towards the people we serve, the people who build with us, and the country we live in.”

He further stated how the Zomato journey has created wealth for him, his employees, the company's institutional investors, and retail shareholders.

According to Goyal, he didn't start Zomato to make money. He just wanted to do something “worthwhile” with his life.

Recalling the initial journey of building Zomato, he wrote, “One weekend, I went around town, collected takeaway menus, and uploaded them onto a website — purely in the spirit of service. I never thought it could be a business. I wasn’t looking for revenue. I

was simply trying to be helpful.”

Describing Zomato as an “accidental company,” Goyal said it was built with a desire to serve. Eventually, it became a business.

SOCIAL IMPACT

In his letter, the Zomato CEO also mentioned how the company has empowered delivery partners, restaurant partners, and store partners. They now have more money and freedom to “better provide for their families.”

Numerous people have told Goyal that because of their jobs and connection with Zomato, they are able to send their children to better schools. This is something they weren't able to do earlier.

“They tell me that their life is more full of hope than what it used to be,” he wrote.

THE “ETERNAL” REBRANDING

Explaining how the name “Eternal” came about, he wrote, “When we acquired Blinkit, we started using “Eternal” (instead of Zomato) internally to distinguish between the company and the brand/app. We also thought that we would publicly rename the company to Eternal, the day something beyond Zomato became a significant driver of our future.”

According to Deepinder, with Blinkit, that moment has arrived.

Zomato Ltd., the company, will be renamed to Eternal Ltd. He clarified that the name change is for the company and not the brand/app.

Deepinder also called the new name a powerful one.

He added,”...to be honest, it scares me to my core. It is a tall order to live up to. Because ‘Eternal’ carries both a promise and a paradox.”

Calling it a mission statement instead of just a name change, Deepinder requested shareholders to support it.

Eternal will now have four divisions—Zomato, Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure.
