YouTube's Plan for Investing in Indian Creators

The popular video-sharing social media platform has paid over ₹21,000 crore to Indian creators, artists and media companies over the past three years.

The ₹850 crore investment will go toward tools, training, and other initiatives to help Indian creators widen their reach and build sustainable revenue models.

The platform reported that more than 100 million channels in India uploaded content in the past year. Over 15,000 of those surpassed a million subscribers each.

YouTube claimed it has helped Indian creators turn content production into viable businesses.

CEO Neal Mohan praises PM Modi for making India a "Creator Nation"

Indian content is capturing the audience worldwide. As disclosed by the company, videos produced by Indian creators generated 45 billion hours of watch time from viewers outside the country in the past year.

“India isn’t just a world leader for film and music – it’s rapidly becoming what I’m excited to call a ‘Creator Nation,’” Mohan said during his address. “YouTube’s ability to connect a creator anywhere with audiences everywhere has made it a powerful engine of cultural export, and few nations have leveraged this as effectively as India.”

Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary leadership for India's growing digital presence, the YouTube boss said, "With over 25 million subscribers on YouTube, the Prime Minister has the largest YouTube following of any head of government in the world".

"In the last three years alone, we've paid more than Rs 21,000 crore to creators, artists, and media companies all across India. YouTube's ability to connect a creator anywhere with audiences everywhere has made it a powerful engine of cultural export, and few nations have leveraged this as effectively as India", he said.
