Dr. A. Velumani, the founder of Thycocare Technologies, has offered a perceptive viewpoint on how ego impacts relationships, commerce, and careers. He emphasised that ego has a detrimental effect on interpersonal relationships and general well-being by intensifying suffering while minimising joy.

“Ego Amplifies Pains and Erases Pleasures”

According to Dr. Velumani, ego plays a significant role in weakening relationships. Whether in personal or professional settings, a strong ego creates barriers, making it difficult for individuals to connect, communicate, and collaborate effectively.

In his X post, Dr. Velumani states that “Not just for business alone. Be it career or marriage, ego amplifies pains and erases pleasures.”

In marriages, ego often manifests as an unwillingness to compromise, apologize, or understand a partner's perspective. This can lead to unresolved conflicts and emotional disconnect, ultimately straining the bond between partners.

Similarly, in the corporate world, ego-driven leadership can alienate employees, stifle innovation, and create a toxic work environment. Founders that put their ego over making practical decisions risk losing out on important collaborations, growth opportunities, and mentorship.

He also added that “the stronger the ego, the weaker the relationship,” as it fosters conflicts, misunderstandings, and emotional distance.

Netizens Reactions

Dr. Velumani’s thought-provoking post on X sparked a discussion online, with many netizens agreeing with his views on ego and relationships. Some users praised his wisdom, sharing personal experiences of how ego had affected their relationships and careers. Others highlighted the importance of self-awareness and emotional intelligence in overcoming ego-driven conflicts.

Agreeing with the Thyocare Technologies founder, one user commented, “I read somewhere long ago that ego stands for EDGING GOOD OUT :).”

Another user referenced one of his old posts along the same lines, wherein he stated that "Our ego acts as a Faraday cage, blocking all external feedback. It's essential to open a window occasionally for reception.” He went on to add that without receptiveness, our ‘ego cage' prevents us from venturing out towards success.

A third user added, “Ego in markets is like ego in life - costly and destructive. The stronger it gets, the harder the fall.” He further explained that holding a bad stock just to be right is like holding a grudge - it only hurts you. “Detach from ego. Attach to wisdom. Wealth follows,” was the conclusion to his comment.
