Tesla CEO Elon Musk has recently tweeted urging people to refrain from donating to the internet encyclopedia, Wikipedia, alleging it was controlled by “far-left activists”.
What did Musk say exactly?
Citing a report published by Pirate Wires, a US-based news company, Musk explained how Wikipedia’s pro-Hamas editors hijacked the Israel-Palestine narrative. The billionaire businessman-investor wrote, “Wikipedia is controlled by far-left activists. People should stop donating to them.”
Incidentally, the Delhi High Court on September 5 issued a contempt notice to Wikipedia taking strong objection to its failure for failing to share information about those made edits on the entry page of news agency Asian News International (ANI).
This was after ANI claimed Wikipedia had defamed them by allowing certain edits to a page with information about the news agency. The alleged edit cited ANI as "the propaganda tool" of the Indian government.
Musk and his tweets
Notably, the billionaire is extremely active on X (formerly Twitter). Recently, Musk urged Americans to “vote like your life depends on it” because “it does.”
Also, the Tesla CEO’s recent tweet calling college education “overrated” stirred the online community. Musk himself holds double degrees in physics and economics. However, he said success does not require a four-year college degree. Claiming that hands-on professions like electricians, plumbers, and carpenters have better prospects than acquiring certain academic degrees, Musk remarked, "I think the value of a college education is somewhat overweighted. Too many people spend four years, accumulate a ton of debt and often don't have useful skills that they can apply afterwards. I have a lot of respect for people who work with their hands and we need electricians and plumbers and carpenters and that's a lot more important than having incremental political science majors. I think we should not have this idea that in order to be successful you need a four-year college degree."
Many netizens have supported him. The SpaceX founder added, ''I think colleges are basically for fun and to prove you can do your chores. But they're not for learning."
