Karnataka Deputy CM
Speaking on the pothole issue plaguing Karnataka, especially Bengaluru, the state’s Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, recently told reporters that the problem is not restricted to Karnataka, and portraying it as such is wrong.
"We are filling potholes, despite rain, we are doing it. Work is on daily to fill about a thousand potholes in each corporation (5 corporations in Bengaluru),"he told the media.
“BJP FAILED TO MAINTAIN ROADS WHILE IN POWER”
As per the Times of India, DK Shivakumar alleged that the BJP did not maintain roads during its tenure…and hence the current condition of potholes.
Additionally, the Deputy Chief Minister claimed that the BJP was raising this issue and projecting it as if it only exists in Karnataka deliberately before civic body elections.
"If roads were maintained during the BJP government, why such a situation would have arisen now? They did not do it. Elections are approaching, so they are doing it. Let it be, we will do our duty,” he expressed.
“ROADS LEADING TO PM MODI’S HOUSE ALSO HAVE POTHOLES”
DK Shivakumar stressed that pothole and road issues were not limited to Karnataka and portraying it as such was wrong.
"Please ask your reporters there (in Delhi) as to how many potholes are there? How many are there in the road that leads to the Prime Minister's residence? I want to tell big IT companies and others that such things are everywhere, we are doing our job. It is there across the country, but we have a duty, we will do it,” the Deputy Chief Minister, who also oversees Bengaluru’s development, said.
THE BACKGROUND
It's been some time now that Bengaluru’s potholes have emerged as a major issue.
Recently, when BlackBuck announced moving its operations from Bellandur on Bengaluru's Outer Ring Road owing to road infrastructure concerns, several people, including former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai and Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, asked the state government to step in.
However, BlackBuck later clarified that the firm is not leaving Bengaluru and only shifted locations.
According to the Times of India, the BJP in Karnataka has organized a road blockade protest on the 24th of September. This will be done to highlight road infrastructure issues across the state, especially in Bengaluru.
