The driver Suraj Maurya came to the limelight after activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj wrote about her experience on X, sharing that she had been caught in traffic for more than six hours and that Maurya ensured she reached home safely without showing any signs of frustration.

Bhardwaj wrote: “I want to thank ur driver partner Mr. Suraj Maurya from bottom of my heart. He was with me for 6+ hours because of #GurgaonTraffic but didn’t complain at all. Dropped me home in these waters. Politely said ma’am pay whatever extra u want.” She further described him as “an absolute gem.”

The story was circulated widely on social media.

In a follow-up post, she confirmed that Rapido had formally acknowledged Maurya’s effort. “LOOK WHO GOT REWARDED!!! Suraj Maurya Bhai – The Hero of Gurgaon Gridlock!!! Rapido called him to office today and gave a gift for his hardwork & all the appreciation he is receiving for his kind gesture of driving for 6 hours on that nightmarish day to drop me home,” the lady wrote, sharing a photograph of him.

Hearing the story, netizens have showered the Rapido driver with praise.

One user commented: “Really great reward… excellent.”

Another said: “One of the most heartwarming posts on X today.”

A third individual posted: “Truly deserved. #SurajMaurya showed real humanity that night when the whole city was stuck. Respect for his effort and thanks to @rapidobikeapp for recognising it.”

Another person remarked: “Truly, people like Suraj Maurya are the real heroes – without any pretence, they just come forward to help others. Six hours of hard work and so much dedication, really salute the brother!”

The situation in Gurgaon has been widely referred to as “Gurujam,” which left large parts of the city paralysed.

Footage showed corporate employees dressed in formals travelling home on the back of a mini truck, heavy crowds at metro stations, and flooded roads in high-end residential zones.
