Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo held in Delhi, paid a heartfelt tribute to two impactful names in the automobile industry — Ratan Tata and Osamu Suzuki.
According to The Economic Times, Narendra Modi highlighted their contributions to the automobile industry and emphasized that their work and legacy will act as an inspiring precedent for the sector.
Talking about how Tata and Suzuki both made it easier for the middle class to get access to quality cars, PM Modi said, “I want to remember Ratan Tata Ji and Osamu Suzuki on this occasion. Both of them have a huge contribution to the growth of India's auto sector and in fulfilling the middle-class dream.”
“I have faith that the legacy of Ratan Tata Ji and Osamu Suzuki will inspire the mobility sector for years to come,” he added confidently.
In 2024, Ratan Tata and Osamu Suzuki departed from this world.

A LEGACY OF INNOVATION AND AFFORDABILITY
Ratan Tata and Osamu Suzuki played a very important role in making mobility easier and more affordable for the common man. They did this without compromising on quality.
Ratan Tata’s Tata Motors launched India's first indigenous car, the Tata Indica, in 1998.
Even though it struggled with a few hiccups in the beginning, Indica went on to become a best-seller, proving the country's manufacturing and industrial potential.
Everybody knows the Tata Nano.
In 2008, Ratan Tata launched the world's cheapest car with a simple but very resounding mission in his mind: open the doors of car ownership for millions of India.
Even though the car went through commercial challenges with Tata admitting that they marketed it wrongly by calling it the “cheapest car,” the Nano remains an example of sheer innovation where one man decided to enable Indians to own a car, without the hurdles of high prices.
In 2008, Tata Motors climbed to global heights when it acquired Jaguar Land Rover and turned the company into a profitable one.

CARS OF THE COMMON MAN
On the other hand, Osamu Suzuki, former chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation, established a company that came to be known as one that delivers affordable and reliable cars for millions of Indians.
With cars like the Maruti 800, Alto, and Swift that went on to become prominent names, Suzuki’s vision made car ownership accessible to the masses in the country.
