OpenAI Launches Most Advanced GPT-4.5, Sam Altman Claims It’s A Different Kind Of Intelligence With A ‘Magic’ To It

OpenAI announced on Thursday a preview of GPT-4.5, which the company claims to be its largest and best model for chat to date.

The AI research organisation further claimed the new model has more warmth, naturally flowing conversations, better emotional intelligence and more advanced capabilities, for instance, the ability to recognize patterns, draw connections and think more creatively.

In a press release, OpenAI explained that the model can understand more nuance and context is more attuned to collaboration and is generally more knowledgeable, effectively reducing the likeliness to hallucination.

With tech companies competing to develop AI that can match or surpass human capabilities, GPT-4.5 from OpenAI is a step forward.

This new version comes after China's DeepSeek shook up the generative AI field with its low-cost model followed by Google releasing version 2.0 of its Gemini AI.

On social media platform X, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed that this is the first model that feels like talking to a thoughtful person.

“I have had several moments where i've sat back in my chair and been astonished at getting actually good advice from an AI,” said Altman.

Altman also disclosed that it is a “giant, expensive” model.

“It’s a different kind of intelligence and there’s a magic to it i haven’t felt before,” he added.

Features of GPT-4.5

As claimed by OpenAI, early testing indicates that GPT-4.5 offers a more natural and intuitive user experience.

The model has a broader knowledge base, improved alignment with user intent, and heightened emotional intelligence, making it an expert at handling tasks such as writing assistance, programming, and practical problem-solving.

Also, OpenAI says that GPT-4.5 will exhibit fewer instances of “hallucinations,” where an AI model generates incorrect or nonsensical information.

However, GPT-4.5 is not classified by OpenAI as a frontier AI model. 

Initially, the new model is accessible to ChatGPT Pro users and developers. OpenAI plans to extend availability to Plus and Team users in the coming week, followed by Enterprise and Education users.

GPT-4.5 is now integrated into Microsoft’s Azure AI Foundry platform to expand its reach to enterprise customers.
