Bhavish Aggarwal’s AI startup Krutrim has deployed Chinese startup DeepSeek’s advanced AI models on domestic servers to ensure data privacy while reducing the cost of training AI models.

Krutrim's founder Bhavish Aggarwal announces on X

"India can’t be left behind in AI," Aggarwal shared on social media platform X on January 31. "As a first step, our cloud now has DeepSeek models live, hosted on Indian servers, with the lowest pricing in the world."

The Ola founder’s statement came after Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said DeepSeek would be on Indian servers “very soon”.

By hosting these models locally, Aggarwal’s Krutrim secures sensitive data within the country, providing privacy and security. Meanwhile, running AI on domestic infrastructure helps reduce operational costs, making advanced AI more affordable to Indian businesses and developers.

Krutrim’s newly launched AI cloud services, Krutrim Cloud, will help developers and enterprises access advanced GPU resources to speed up their projects and improve productivity.

Krutrim will also give access to "state-of-the-art" GPU hardware that offers superior performance for intensive computing tasks like AI training, 3D rendering, and scientific simulations.

The startup’s name ‘Krutrim’ originates from a Sanskrit word which means ‘artificial’. Founder Bhavish Aggarwal said Krutrim will operate as a separate company within the Ola Group, just like the IPO-bound Ola Electric and its cab business.

Krutrim will share details about its AI lab, state-of-the-art (SOTA) models, and open-source contributions on February 4.

Incidentally, Microsoft and Amazon cloud units also announced hosting DeepSeek models on their servers on January 30.
