Monk Entertainment has recently rolled out an out of the box vacancy for what would be a dream job for many netizens.
Rebranding “doom-scrollers”, a term once synonymous with digital fatigue”, into a skillset, Sheth posted on LinkedIn and Instagram stories,
“Hiring doom-scrollers at Monk-E.”
This job alert has left the social media world in shock.
Definition of Doom-scrolling
A doom-scroller is a person who spends an excessive amount of time staring at screens,
Doomscrolling is the act of compulsively consuming large amounts of online content, typically through social media or news websites, on a smartphone or computer.
This often leads to increased anxiety, depression, and feelings of hopelessness, as individuals become trapped in a continuous cycle of bad news.
Over time, the definition of a doom-scroller has broadened to encompass anyone who spends too much time on social media, caught in the loop of an infinite algorithm-driven feed.
Eligibility for “doom-scroller” job.
Enlisting the role and responsibilities of a doomscroller, Monk Entertainment highlighted the role by stating,
“Doom-scroll and be aware about the latest in the creator world”
Sharing the skills required for the full-time doomscrolling role, Sheth stated on LinkedIn,
“Well, first and foremost, anyone applying for the position must spend at least six hours a day scrolling Instagram and YouTube. And giving your word for it won’t suffice – the claim must be backed up with proper screenshot evidence"
“Next, they must be “obsessed with creators and creator culture” and “know every new creator on the block”, the CEO further added.
Highlighting the significance of Reddit, Sheth further stated,
“These days, Reddit is a huge part of making and breaking narratives, so the interested candidate must consume Reddit’s InstaCelebsGossip community like the morning paper.
“Finally”, said the CEO of Monk Entertainment, “the candidate must be fluent in Hindi and English, and should have no problem using Excel.”
Encouraging applicants to apply humour in the cover emails, the CEO concluded his Instagram story by saying,
“This is a full-time position based in Mumbai”, with applications invited via email—subject line “doomscroller”. “Please show some personality/humour in the email body. Do not use ChatGPT for it,"
Sheth did not disclose the salary range but said the pay would be “very competitive.”
The job vacancy amused the users on social media
His LinkedIn post was showered with several hilarious comments by amused LinkedIn users.
“Is 19 hours ok or am I overqualified?” asked one person.
“I love how we are changing names of the jobs, and making it sound more fun and exciting,” commented brand manager Natasha Joshi.
Another user, posting under the handle Untold Mantras, called it “a great way to match culture with skills.”
“Wow, time really changes. Once upon a time, being ‘addicted to social media’ was a red flag. Now, it’s a full-time job description,” another said.
“Most unique eligibility criteria. Finally someone is paying off for the long screen time hours,” a LinkedIn user commented
