Ashwini Vaishnaw
On September 24, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, displayed his inclination to “switch to swadeshi” by using Zoho Show for a presentation instead of Microsoft PowerPoint.
According to Moneycontrol, this was during the Cabinet briefing where the IT Minister was supposed to speak to the media personnel and share the Union Cabinet’s recent decisions.
“NOT MICROSOFT, BUT ZOHO”
Before beginning his briefing, Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized his choice of presentation software and stated that it aligned with the “swadeshi” spirit.
“Keeping with the spirit of swadeshi, the presentation I am about to make before you was prepared using Zoho. It was not made on Microsoft Powerpoint, but Zoho,”he said.
He also added that he had been using Zoho software for several days before the public presentation. According to him, it represents a “personal commitment.”
The Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting also took to X (previously Twitter) to highlight his decision to choose Zoho Show instead of PowerPoint for his presentation.
"Switch to Swadeshi! Cabinet briefing using Zoho Show,” he wrote.
In an accompanying video of the briefing, the minister is seen saying,“Aaj ka jo PPT bana hai, voh Zoho pe bana hai. Microsoft PowerPoint pe nahi hai…Zoho pe bana hai.”
WHAT DID NETIZENS SAY
While some people resonated with the swadeshi shift, others questioned the minister.
One user wrote, “Govt itself promoting Zoho is not a small thing. Many criticised govt for not supporting koo (Although it had many flaws). They said govt should have used it. Now that Indian govt is using and promoting Zoho, let's see how many will switch to it.”
Another stated, “Posting on X, which is not Swadeshi.”
Yet another user said, “Great job 👏. Now with Zoho @svembu & UPI @NandanNilekani showing Swadeshi works, can we make it mandatory for all govt employees to use govt schools & hospitals? Real Atmanirbharta starts here.”
