Vaishnaw said that the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making modern technology accessible to everyone so that AI solutions are affordable and available to all.
The Minister also addressed global privacy concerns stating that AI services, including those associated with DeepSeek, will be hosted on Indian servers, to make certain that data security remains in Indian hands.
He added that the model will be powered by the India AI Compute Facility, which has secured 19,000 GPUs to build a large language model (LLM) designed specifically for the country. Out of these GPUs, 15,000 are high-end. With this, the Indian government has over-delivered its target of 10,000 GPUs.
"Cost of compute — GPU access per hour — after the 40% govt incentive will be less than a dollar in India, the lowest in the world," the Union minister said regarding the India AI Mission.
