According to a recent AI trends report, India has become the largest user base for ChatGPT, surpassing the United States in monthly active users.

As mentioned by Mary Meeker’s AI Trends Report, as of April 2025, India accounts for 13.5% of global ChatGPT users, overtaking the U.S. (8.9%) and Indonesia (5.7%).
Notably, the report also positions India third globally in usage of the DeepSeek mobile app, after China (33.9%) and Russia (9.2%).
The AI-supported chatbot has become a go-to app for Indians.
Why is India adopting ChatGPT faster than anyone else?
Whether students are taking help with school work, or for writing a heartfelt note, compiling business emails or sorting through personal thoughts, OpenAI’s ChatGPT is gradually becoming an integral part of the daily routine of many Indians.
Moreover, ChatGPT supports several Indian languages like Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil, which serves as a big advantage.
With improving mobile device affordability and increased internet speeds, ChatGPT usage in India is only surging.
According to a study by DeskTime, 92.2% of Indian workplaces have embraced ChatGPT usage in their daily operations. The country's adoption of ChatGPT is significantly higher than that of the US, which has only 72.2% of its offices using ChatGPT.
