After Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, during the Budget 2025 speech, announced that individuals earning up to Rs 12 lakh annual income will have to pay zero income tax, numerous people have been lauding the Government’s goal to reduce the tax burden on the middle-class population of the country.

Ritesh Agarwal, founder of OYO, took to LinkedIn to commend the new budget and called it a ‘blockbuster’ with big investments and a high impact.

A BLOCKBUSTER BUDGET

In his post, Ritesh Agarwal wrote, “If budgets were movies, this one would be a blockbuster—big investments, high impact, and a story of India’s progress.”

He listed four key points:

  1. Agarwal stated that the tax exemption for individuals earning up to Rs 12 lakh will make India move closer to achieving the status of a tax-free nation.

  2. The boost in MUDRA loans will encourage the country’s entrepreneurship spirit and encourage farm stays.

  3. With startups receiving a fresh Rs 10,000 crore corpus, Ritesh called it an “infusion dream” for them.

  4. He also highlighted how global expansion will help take India’s technology and products to the world.

‘ONE OF THE MOST TRANSFORMATIVE’ BUDGETS

Along with the post, the OYO founder attached a video explaining his reasoning behind lauding the budget.

According to him, Budget 2025 will be one of the most transformative budgets for the country.

Referring to President Donald Trump's statement that one of his long-term visions is to make the United States of America a tax-free nation, Ritesh Agarwal said that India has already achieved this “informally.” He added that a large majority of Indians will now be tax-free and only a small section will have to pay tax, which he considers fair.

Talking about how farmers in India often struggle to have a consistent income stream, Ritesh said that the boost in MUDRA loans will be transformational for the homestay ecosystem of the country.

He said the OYO team had received the opportunity to submit recommendations and suggestions for the Budget. One of their primary suggestions was to give MUDRA loans to farmers so they could run rural homestays in their villages.

Additionally, Ritesh Agarwal praised the Rs 10,000 crore infusion for startups and said it’ll greatly help entrepreneurs and new ventures in the country.

Lastly, he emphasized how the export promotion program will bring a revolution in India’s exports.
