Recently, a stern email from Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal to employees went viral. In it, he accused employees of “fleecing the company” and showed no patience in asking for the reason.
Ola CEO Sends Warning to Employees
In the said email, the CEO expressed his frustration over shockingly low attendance rates, writing, “I would imagine everyone has the basic self-respect to not fleece the company by not even turning up for work. It’s even disrespectful to those colleagues who genuinely work hard and contribute.”
He warned, "Monday onwards a more stringent attendance expectation will start. And those of you who have misused the freedom so far, HR will be having a conversation with you. Come to work, do good work, and feel a part of Ola's mission".
Mentioning that the company has no work-from-home policy except in genuine cases, he threatened that HR would address serial absentees.
Aggarwal dismissed any excuse about the company’s facial recognition system, remarking, “Let’s not insult basic intelligence.”
He finished the email by asking employees to actively contribute to the company’s mission and take pride in their work.

Don't fleece the company by not showing up,per internal note.
Apparently staff have said facial recognition data is wrong on attendance. pic.twitter.com/14kuBgGhww
An X user remarked, “This is the kind of email that would make a good employee leave the company.”
Another commented, “Trying to take one (more) from Elon’s toolkit.”
A third individual wrote, “Messages like these reminds me of old age lala companies, a recent example can be seen with FIITJEE.
OLA is a new age billion dollar company, In the first place cracks in the system lead the misuse, why it took so long to identify.
CEO of company looking into attendance records, shows a level of micro management. Does this means the CEO does not rely his core team or mid senior, mid management.”
Incidentally, Ola has been taking cost-cutting measures, including laying off 500 employees.
Notably, Ola Electric has plans to scale its store network from 800 to 4,000 by December 2024.
It is also rolling out a “network partner program,” intending to onboard 10,000 partners by 2025 to boost sales and service touchpoints across smaller towns and cities.
