Deepinder Goyal has teamed up with the former Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Zomato, Surobhi Das to launch a new aerospace startup.
Zomato boss partners with Ex COO in new venture
The Zomato CEO has invested USD 20 million into this venture, LAT Aerospace, and will serve as a non-executive co-founder, while Das will oversee daily operations.
LAT Aerospace, currently in stealth mode, would develop low-cost, short takeoff and landing (STOL) aircraft with up to 24 seats.
These aircraft are designed to improve regional air connectivity by operating from small airstrips, thus reducing the need for extensive airport infrastructure.
After quitting Zomato in November 2023, Surobhi Das worked at Blinkit, Zomato’s quick commerce platform, expanding markets and adding new categories.
Currently, Surobhi Das is looking for an engineering team for the new Delhi-based startup, in the fields of aircraft design, aerodynamics, materials & composites, hybrid propulsion systems, and turbo-machinery.
In a recent post on LinkedIn, Das wrote, “While building Zomato and traveling extensively, Deepinder Goyal and I often discussed how regional aviation should be effortless, affordable, and accessible. That’s what we’re now building at LAT.”
“At LAT Aerospace, we’re rethinking the way we fly—designing low-cost 12 to 24-seater STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) aircraft designed to make cities, towns, and communities more connected than ever.”
Goyal reshared the post remarking, “Excited to bring a decade old idea to life, Surobhi Das.”
