Ramdev Baba slams Trump tariffs
A day after the Trump administration levied an additional 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods, Yoga guru and entrepreneur Ramdev slammed the US administration, and urged all Indians to completely boycott American brands and companies.
Ramdev slams President Trump
The Indian guru spoke to the media to convey his message to the citizens of the country for adopting "Swadeshi" (Indian-made) goods and shun all US brands including popular ones like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, McDonald's, KFC, and Apple.
Ramdev in an exclusive interview with India Today said the country is the “biggest market in the world” and urged that “no patriotic citizen of the country should be seen at an Apple showroom until Donald Trump comes to his senses.”
The yoga guru advised people to avoid American fast-food chains and products. “People should stop going to KFC, McDonald's, and Subway. Companies like Coca-Cola, Pepsi and Nike should be completely boycotted,” he said.
He condemned Trump’s tariffs as “tariff terrorism” and “economic terrorism,” accusing the US President of bullying India and engaging in a form of intellectual colonization.
“If anyone is using American products at this time, it is a betrayal of the country. Millions of people sacrificed their lives to win freedom for this country. This is a fight for economic freedom. This time, everyone should take revenge for this insult together,” Ramdev said.
A punitive 25 per cent tariff, foisted due to India's purchases of Russian oil, was added to Trump's initial 25 per cent tariff on many imports.
The Indian yoga guru warned that a “massive boycott” could trigger economic chaos in America, leading to inflationary pressures that might push the American President to reverse his tariff decision. Ramdev said the boycott will serve as both an act of economic resistance and patriotic duty, demanding that Indian consumers should more than ever embrace local products over multinational corporations.
Industry experts are of the opinion that the Trump tariffs are likely to give a sharp blow to the Indian exporters especially in textiles, gems and jewellery, and auto components, where the US market brings a significant revenue stream.
