The Ranveer Allahabadia and Samay Raina controversy that started on the latter’s show India’s Got Latent has reached the Supreme Court.

For context, Ranveer Allahabadia, a digital content creator, entrepreneur, and a podcaster by the name of BeerBiceps, had made a certain remark that received widespread social outrage.

Now Anupam Mittal, founder and CEO of People Group, has reacted to the controversy and asked several resounding questions about how justified or unjustified it is for the influencers to get summoned to the Court.

“SUMMON YOUTUBE TO THE HIGH COURT”

In a LinkedIn post, Anupam Mittal wrote that apart from just Ranveer Allahabadia and Apoorva, the social media platform YouTube should also be summoned to the High Court.

He stated, “Summon YouTube to the High Court too, not just Ranveer and Apoorva. See, what happened was messy, crass, and undeniably wrong. The statements & language used are totally unacceptable in any civilized society.”

“But before we get all sanskari & load up our guns, lets understand what the real issue is,” Mittal added.

ALWAYS ABOUT INSULTS, VULGARITY…SHOCK”

The Shark Tank India judge further highlighted that India’s Got Latent was a show about insults and shock from the start.

In his words, “India's Got Latent wasn’t some Satyamev Jayate ka lost episode > it was always about insults, vulgarity, irreverence & shock. Like it or hate it, that was the show 🤷🏻

So, when the host & guests cross the line, can we get scandalized? That’s literally the algorithmic jackpot from their perspective.”

Anupam Mittal added that this entire controversy isn’t just about just a select few influencers. It is about a social media phenomenon that depends on increasing outrage.

According to him, YouTube, Instagram, and digital media “dangle virality like prasad” but do not take accountability and “step back when the fire starts.”

‘RANVEER, SAMAY, APOORVA…ARE ACTUALLY THE VICTIMS”

In his post, Anupam Mittal stated that it is time people moved their attention to the bigger issue.

He asked three questions.

In his words, “🤔 Are our laws actually protecting young minds from explicit content?

🤔 Why aren’t we holding platforms accountable for what they serve up?

🤔 How is it that kids can still access far worse content with zero guardrails?”

Citing a personal example of how YouTube shows age-inappropriate content despite him enabling parental controls for his son, Anupam called YouTube “the worst of all offenders.”

He concluded by writing, “I personally think Ranveer, Apoorva, Samay & others like them are actually the victims who are caught in an endless cycle of provocation for their relevance & survival.

The real culprits are ‘Big-tech’ who take cover under digital intermediary laws that allow them to flout all responsbility & accountability.”
