Mangaluru techie builds an AI device ‘MOM’
A young engineer from Mangaluru, Sohan M Rai, has surprised the internet with a strange but clever idea.
He built a small device that listens for stomach growls and orders food on Zomato when it detects hunger. His video has pulled in thousands of views and has started many conversations online.
Mangaluru techie creates AI Device Orders Food on Stomach Growl
The device is called MOM, short for Meal Ordering Module. The creator placed it on his belt and connected it to a stethoscope. He said he borrowed the stethoscope from his sister.
A tiny microphone, a sound sensor, a battery and a microcontroller help the device listen to stomach sounds. When the stomach growls, the device sends the sound to an AI model to check if it is really hungry. If yes, MOM triggers a food order on Zomato.
In his video, he said, “I invented this device which understands when I am hungry and automatically orders food on Zomato.” He also said he tested the device by going without food for a whole day. According to him, this helped him learn what the hunger sound should be.
The setup is simple to look at, but it took him time to train the model and adjust how the sound was read. He also mentioned that his stomach makes clear growls when he is hungry, so the device works well in his case.
What people are saying online and why it went viral
Reactions online have been mixed. Some viewers found the idea funny and fresh. Others did not think it was useful.
A user wrote, “Growl does not mean hungry. Nice work though.” Another person asked how he tested it, and he replied, “Had to sit a whole day without eating.”
Some comments called it a “useless invention” while others felt it could help people who forget to eat during long work hours. A few even joked that they wanted a similar device for their pets so they could know exactly when the pet wanted food.
Who is AI Device MOM’s creator Sohan M Rai?
Sohan M Rai is a tech creator from Mangaluru who regularly shares short engineering and DIY builds online. His LinkedIn profile shows that he graduated from Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management.
After several internships at tech companies, he started his own small venture while posting tech content on Instagram.
This is not his first viral project. In 2023, he gained wide attention after joining Zomato as a delivery partner and delivering food using a drone he built himself.
While sharing that test, he wrote, “I wanted to put my skills into use and build an autonomous drone which could deliver a pizza directly to a home. This is an experiment and was conducted with safety and precautions.”
His new device, MOM, may not turn into a real product, but it once again shows his interest in building fun and creative tech ideas.
