Naval Ravikant posted his opinion about meaningful and busy work on X (formerly Twitter).
On 5th December 2025, Naval Ravikant, a popular Indian-American entrepreneur and founder of AngelList, took to X (formerly Twitter) to post his thoughts on “meaningful” and “busy” work.
When a social media user disagreed with him, Ravikant blocked him for “virtue signaling.”
HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED
Known to frequently share insights and advice on life, entrepreneurship, and business, Naval wrote, “If you don’t commit to meaningful work, life will fill your time with busywork.”
A straightforward interpretation of the same is that a lot of people never truly make time for work that adds true value to their life, and that is why, that empty space is filled in with work that makes them seem “busy.”
Social media users had a variety of opinions on Naval’s take.
One X user disagreed and commented, “Not everybody can afford to leave a busywork to do meaningful work.”
Naval Ravikant responded to him, “Blocked for virtue signaling.”
Another user defended them and wrote that the user wasn't “virtue signalling” but was simply talking about their reality.
“He isn't virtue signaling, it's his reality. The dude works 9-5, which suggests he's trying to build something but finds it difficult, from what I've seen on his page. It's your space, but I'm only pointing that out after briefly checking if he truly was trying to,” they wrote.
WHAT DID OTHER NETIZENS SAY
While some agreed with Naval Ravikant’s take on “meaningful” and “busywork,” others questioned the very definition of such words.
A social media user wrote,“All work has meaning, because all work is given to us by God. Even the smallest acts of busywork (and also rest!) fit in God’s longterm plan. We and others may not even understand the true meaning of our work until long after the work has been completed. But God does.”
Another said,“but meaningful work can also keep you busy. right? so meaningful work is also busy work?”
Yet another user wrote,“Busywork pays the bills, meaningful work feeds the soul.”
