While the transition marks a new chapter for one of India’s most influential internet companies, it has also shone a quiet spotlight on Akriti Chopra, Dhindsa’s wife and the company’s former Chief Financial Officer.

As Dhindsa prepares to formally assume charge in February, the moment has reignited interest in the leadership that shaped Zomato’s rise.

With the group he now leads valued in the tens of thousands of crores, Dhindsa has long kept a low public profile, despite reports of a taste for luxury, from a Range Rover worth around Rs 2 crore to a BMW valued at approximately Rs 2.4 crore. But behind the scenes, Akriti Chopra has been one of the company’s most consistent pillars.

Who is  Akriti Chopra?

Born in 1988, Chopra’s credentials reflect both academic rigour and startup grit. An alumna of Delhi Public School, RK Puram, she went on to study commerce at Lady Shri Ram College before qualifying as a chartered accountant after stints in PwC’s demanding tax practice.

She joined Zomato in 2011, when the company was still finding its feet, coming on board as a senior manager in finance and operations.

Her ascent mirrored Zomato’s own. By 2019, Chopra had risen to the role of CFO, later being named co-founder ahead of the company’s public listing.

She eventually took on the mantle of Chief People Officer, playing a key role in shaping Zomato’s leadership culture during its most transformative years.

Her departure in September 2024, after 13 years at the company, sparked speculation across industry circles, which has resurfaced with Dhindsa’s elevation.

Since stepping away, Chopra has maintained a low profile, focusing on family while, according to industry whispers, continuing to offer informal counsel as Zomato and Blinkit scale new heights following the Grofers acquisition.

Together, Albinder Dhindsa and Akriti Chopra represent a rare blend of entrepreneurial ambition and operational discipline, balancing boardroom intensity with personal partnership.

As Zomato enters its next phase, Chopra’s next move continues to draw keen interest.
