Bengaluru to open India’s first startup and tech museum by 2027
Bengaluru is set to get a museum that highlights India’s tech and startup story. It will be built on 12,000 sq m at the old Switch Gear factory on the NGEF campus in Baiyappanahalli.
The project is a joint effort between the government’s Department of Electronics, IT & BT and S&T, and the civic group UnboxingBLR.
The Karnataka Technology and Innovation Museum Foundation (KTIMF) will handle the work. The plan is to open the first phase in 2027, with the second phase following soon after.
What the museum will show and how it will work
Prashanth Prakash, co-founder and chairperson of UnboxingBLR, said,
“The museum will chronicle the last four to five decades of technological advancements. A lot of economic contributions in the last 25 years have been tech-led and digital, and central to that are also the entrepreneurial contributions of Bengaluru.”
The museum will give visitors a mix of tech history, current developments and future ideas. Exhibits will cover key moments from research labs, industry, startups and government bodies.
Interactive and modern displays will be used to make the experience engaging. A global Request for Proposal (RFP) for the design will be issued soon, and the project has a budget of around ₹100 crore.
Why Bengaluru is the right place
Bengaluru has long been known as India’s main tech city, home to startups, major companies, research centres and innovation hubs. The city’s growth reflects the larger story of India’s rise in technology, making it a natural home for this museum.
The museum will help people understand how technology has shaped daily life and how entrepreneurship grew over the years. It aims to serve as a learning space for students, a source of new ideas for founders, and a place for the public to explore India’s tech path.
With strong support from both the government and industry, the museum is expected to become an important cultural and tech space for the city.
