In the vibrant metropolis of Delhi, two childhood friends, Madhav Kasturia and Angad Singh, dared to dream big.

It was the autumn of 2020, and the world was reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Madhav, bedridden, waited anxiously for over-the-counter medicines and groceries he had ordered online. Days passed, and the packages remained stuck in a labyrinth of broken supply chains.

“I was sick, frustrated, and realised how impatient we’ve all become with our online orders,” Madhav recalls.

This exasperation sparked a vision that led Madhav to launch Zippee, a quick logistics startup poised to transform last-mile delivery in the Indian startup ecosystem.

Madhav, a philosophy and economics graduate from Hindu College, University of Delhi, and Angad, armed with a business administration degree from the University of Southern California, saw a gap in the quick logistics market in India.

While quick commerce companies like Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart promised 10-minute grocery deliveries, emerging D2C brands struggled to compete.

High commissions, opaque listing processes, and limited visibility on these platforms left Indian consumer brands gasping for air.

Thus, in January 2021, Zippee was born—a logistics partner for new-age D2C brands in India, designed to bridge the gap between traditional couriers and ultra-fast quick commerce.

Identifying the Gap:

The idea for Zippee wasn’t just a reaction to delayed deliveries; it was a calculated strike at a market inefficiency.

Madhav, who had juggled a successful cloud kitchen business in Delhi and Mumbai while still in college, understood the pain of logistics bottlenecks.

Madhav’s childhood friend, Angad Singh, fresh from stints in venture capital and at a high-growth e-commerce SaaS startup in Santa Monica, California, joined him on the founding team, bringing a global perspective on the role of tech in logistics.

Their research revealed a stark reality: over 60% of D2C orders came from India’s top 10 cities, yet emerging brands faced steep barriers on quick commerce platforms.

“D2C brands often lose out on valuable customer data that quick commerce platforms control, hindering their ability to analyse customer behaviour and patterns,” says Madhav Kasturia, the founder and CEO of Zippee, during an exclusive interview with Startup Pedia.

Zippee’s solution? A logistics sweet spot—same-day delivery, powered by a network of dark stores strategically placed in urban hubs like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bangalore.

Unlike traditional logistics giants like Delhivery or XpressBees, whose warehouses sit on city outskirts, Zippee’s dark stores are nestled in key residential and commercial areas, enabling brands to provide a faster delivery experience.

“Our strategy to focus on a same-day delivery window allows us to cover a broader service area, batch more orders per rider trip, and optimise logistics costs. It’s effective and efficient,” shares Angad Singh, Zippee’s founding team member.

Building a Market Disruptor:

Zippee began modestly, launching in Delhi-NCR and Mumbai with a same-day delivery model.

By mid-2023, the Gurugram startup introduced a 120-minute delivery option, catering to the growing demand for speed.

The real game-changer came in April 2025 with the launch of Blaze, Zippee’s flagship 60-minute delivery service rolled out in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore.

“Blaze is our answer to the ever-evolving needs of D2C brands and e-commerce marketplaces,” says Angad to Startup Pedia.

Today, Zippee operates across 13 cities in India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Ludhiana, with over 70 dark stores fueling its operations.

The startup’s tech-driven approach sets it apart. Zippee integrates warehousing, last-mile delivery, and sophisticated backend software into a seamless 3-in-1 service.

Zippee’s automated WhatsApp-based solutions ensure its clients’ customers can reschedule deliveries effortlessly, boosting satisfaction and retention.

“We’re like the quick commerce arm of an online D2C brand, but on autopilot,” Madhav quips.

This model has delivered tangible value: clients report up to a 500% boost in sales and a 90% reduction in their orders’ return-to-origin (RTO) rates, with a 98.5% same-day delivery accuracy driving higher Net Promoter Scores (NPS).

Overcoming the Challenges:

However, the startup’s journey hasn’t been without turbulence.

Zippee’s premium pricing—almost 3X that of traditional courier companies—raised eyebrows. Convincing clients that the investment would yield greater ROI was a hurdle.

“The primary challenge was to justify our premium pricing by showing the value we bring to our clients—higher sales, lower RTOs, and better customer retention,” Angad notes.

Building a same-day delivery ecosystem from scratch in a competitive market dominated by deep-pocketed players was another daunting task. Zippee had to blend operational excellence with cutting-edge tech to stand out.

Yet, the young entrepreneurs persevered.

With a zero-discount policy, Zippee doubled down on quality, serving over 170 clients across sectors like F&B, petcare, beauty, eyewear, and health & wellness, etc.

Brands like Lenskart, Clinikally, Haldiram’s, Supertails, etc, have embraced Zippee’s services, reaping the rewards of faster deliveries.

The startup’s focus on client satisfaction metrics has paid off, with a ~300% Y-O-Y growth in the last financial year (2024-25) and a targeted 400% Y-O-Y by the end of FY 2025-26.

Fuelled by Funding and Vision:

Zippee’s meteoric rise has been backed by substantial funding—$8.5 million from investors like FMCG giant Haldiram’s, venture capital firm South Asia Technology Partners, and celebrity angels like Kunal Shah, Tanmay Bhat, Peyush Bansal, Raj Shamani, and Ashneer Grover.

This capital has powered its national expansion, with over 1,500 staff, including dark store associates and delivery riders, and a 50-strong corporate team.

Notably, Zippee’s leadership team now includes operators from e-commerce and supply chain companies like Zomato and Tracelink.

“We aim to double our workforce in the upcoming year,” Angad reveals, underscoring Zippee’s ambitious future plans.

The startup’s client feedback highlights its impact. Brands praise the quickness, freshness, and reliability Zippee brings to a market crowded with traditional logistics players.

“We deeply understand that the various aspects of Zippee’s quick commerce-like fast delivery are a long-term investment for many emerging D2C brands and e-commerce businesses,” Madhav says.

By building the same-day delivery ecosystem, Zippee drives customer loyalty for its clients, a critical metric in the cutthroat e-commerce landscape.

The Road Ahead: Miles to Go

Zippee’s vision extends beyond its current footprint.

With plans to enter 7 new cities and add 60 more dark stores this year, the startup is poised for further expansion.

A new ‘pick-up & drop’ service, allowing deliveries from brands’ local retail stores, is in the pipeline, initially targeting legacy brands.

“We’re building and designing Zippee to support over 1 lakh online brands in India,” Angad explains, positioning the startup as India’s first quick commerce logistics-as-a-service platform.

The quick logistics market in India, projected to reach $29 billion by FY 2030, offers immense potential. Yet, challenges loom.

Can Zippee compete with e-commerce giants that have in-house delivery networks and established third-party logistics players? Will Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities provide fertile ground for its model?

As Madhav and Angad steer Zippee toward attaining profitability in all the cities it operates in, the stakes are really high!

“At Zippee, we’ve innovated a premium yet practical & tech-enabled approach to securing quick last-mile delivery of products offered by India’s brands,” Madhav concludes.
