Anil Reddy - Founder Of Happy Pet
“Why is my puppy not eating?”
“How to take pets on a flight?”
“Why is my cat not showing affection?”
“List of top breeders in my area.”
This is what the Google search history for most pet parents, especially the new ones, looks like.
And to top that, they're in constant anxiety about whether they've found the right information, why some information conflicts with others, and if they're doing the right thing for their pets.
“When I became a pet parent, I saw firsthand how scattered credible information about the pet industry was. I would search for one thing, end up reading something unrelated, go back, look it up again, and just keep digging through tens and hundreds of articles,” Anil Reddy, founder of Happy Pet, tells Startup Pedia in an exclusive interview.
Entrepreneur Anil Reddy decided to address this evident gap in the pet industry and launch a one-stop solution for the entire ecosystem of the pet industry.
In 2024, he launched Happy Pet. It is an end-to-end platform dedicated to pets and everything related to them. From doctors and veterinarians to trainers and breeders, Happy Pet acts as a pet-tech solution that provides easy access to essential services and information.

FOUNDER'S STORY
Anil Reddy describes himself as an artist by heart, designer by soul, and entrepreneur by choice. Hailing from Karnataka, he studied graphic design and visual communication.
Eventually, in 2003, he went abroad to earn his Master's from the Design and Arts College of New Zealand. For more than a decade after that, Anil Reddy worked as an interactive designer.
In 2011, he returned to India and decided to dive into the waters of entrepreneurship.
“I founded the Lollypop Design Studio in 2012. For 13 years, we worked towards scaling the UI UX studio across India and ultimately making it one of the top design studios in the country,” entrepreneur Anil Reddy shares.
Lollypop worked with prominent names like Swiggy, Myntra, and Paytm. In 2019, it was acquired by an American company.
“In 2023, I met a childhood friend who wanted to be a part of the pet industry. He was building Pet Warehouse. I invested in his startup and came on board as an advisor,” says Anil Reddy.
Around the same time, Anil started building his dream house. His only brief to the architect and house designer was to make a spacious home where dogs could move around and run freely.
“But when I started looking for dog breeds that would adjust best to my area's environment and climate, it was a hassle. Multiple articles on the Internet told multiple stories. I wanted an expert opinion,” he tells Startup Pedia.
Identifying the scattered nature of the pet industry, Anil Reddy decided to develop a solution in the form of Happy Pet.
The entrepreneur’s vision was simple: to offer pet parents credible, expert-verified information about pets, all in one place.

JOURNEY AND CHALLENGES
While Happy Pet’s idea began taking shape in 2023, it was in 2024 that Anil Reddy brought together a small team and started working on building the platform.
“When I say a small team, I really mean it. Initially, I was brainstorming along with a colleague of mine. Later, I announced a researcher role online and hired one person. So it was just the three of us,” startup founder Anil Reddy explains.
While building the Bengaluru-based Happy Pet from scratch, Anil and his team went through two main challenges:
-
Anil Reddy had the experience of building a company but didn't have any knowledge about the industry he had ventured into. Long hours were spent collating information and trying to bind everything together.
The entrepreneur got in touch with experts in the pet industry and held meetings with them.
“The best part about this industry is that no one believes in gatekeeping information. Everyone was very open and accepting towards offering their knowledge,” Reddy tells Startup Pedia.
-
Initially, opening the pet industry to technology was challenging. Conventionally, pet parents, pet shops, veterinarians, doctors, trainers, and breeders operate with a pure offline approach. Happy Pet aimed to bring technology into the mix and make things smoother, faster, and more efficient for everyone involved.
“Most often, change is met with resistance. We had to double down on our awareness-building activities. We helped stakeholders in the pet industry understand the need for a one-stop destination and the requirement of a mobile application to track the health of their pets,” startup founder Anil Reddy shares.
In June 2024, Happy Pet was officially live in the market.
When Anil Reddy started out, he assumed that the entire project would take at least two years to complete and go live. But he adopted a build-fast-launch-fast model and was able to launch the end-to-end pet-tech platform in just one year.

HAPPY PET CARE: INDIA’S ULTIMATE HUB FOR EVERYTHING PETS
Happy Pet is an end-to-end pet-tech platform that strives to create a pet ecosystem that is reliable, efficient, and informative.
The startup’s mission is to connect like-minded pet parents and make them aware of the best practices, nutrition, and care for their pets.
“Ultimately, building a community is what we’re looking at with Happy Pet,” entrepreneur Anil Reddy shares.
As a platform, Happy Pet offers:
- Informative insights into hundreds of breeds of dogs, cats, birds, and fish. This is collated according to the Indian context.
-
Contact information of registered breeders.
-
One-click search service for pet stores, online delivery stores, pet supplies, and pet services.
-
Information and contact addresses of rescue shelters for people who want to adopt a pet.
-
Pet influencers and startups working in the pet industry.
-
Latest news, stories, and updates about everything that is going on in the pet industry.
-
Fun events for pets and their parents to attend.
As an AI-driven mobile application (both for Android and iOS), the Happy Pet app offers a pet parent:
-
Management and maintenance of the health records of their pet.
-
Option to manage and log daily expenses spent on food, water, and vaccinations.
-
Option to track the pet’s daily walking, pooping, peeing, and sleeping patterns.
-
A ‘Pet Diary’ that can be used to add pictures and memories
-
A ‘Connect’ feature that helps pet parents find new friends for themselves and their pets.
The Happy Pet platform has been developed purely from the perspective of a pet parent. With every query that comes to their mind, every doubt that they battle with, and every product they search for, this end-to-end pet-tech platform addresses it all.
Apart from the above features, Happy Pet offers a fun option of a Pet Name Generator. This AI-based tool asks pet parents to choose the pet type, gender, and theme they’d want the name to be around.
Additionally, the platform has a specialized quiz that helps people select the perfect dog breed for them. This 5-7 minute quiz asks questions about factors such as preferred size of the dog, the intent of getting one in the first place, and the weather conditions in the area. Based on the responses, the selector tool provides a list of dog breeds that best match the user’s preferences.

GROWTH
The end-to-end pet-tech platform has received a positive response from the pet community and industry.
Since its market launch, the Happy Pet app mobile application has received 2,000+ downloads. The website traffic is significant as well.
“On a daily basis, we get at least 30 to 40 enquiries. All of this has happened when we have invested close to nothing in terms of marketing. This reaffirms to me that a solution like this was needed in the market and people have begun to absorb it,” startup founder Anil Reddy tells Startup Pedia.
As of now, the platform is in a pre-revenue stage but has a concrete plan to start generating revenue through events and act as a ticketing partner for pet events across India.
The mobile app will also begin generating revenue through its premium services.
LOOKING AHEAD
Happy Pet aims to become the globally leading pet-tech company that brings the international pet community and industry under one roof.
“Happy Pet Care will be at the forefront of tech advancement in the pet industry,” Anil says.
The team of twenty people at the Bengaluru-based startup is currently building a SaaS platform that will be integrated into the Happy Pet website and help pet service providers manage and grow their businesses.
The end-to-end pet-tech platform is also exploring opportunities in the Middle East with at least 15 customers already using the mobile app and platform.
“Happy Pet is something that is for pets and their parents. This space has long needed a structure, and we’re here to make that happen. We’d like this to become a go-to for anyone who is thinking of bringing a pet home and starting a new life with them,” entrepreneur Anil Reddy signs off.
