If you’re a movie lover, chances are you browse multiple platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and X (formerly Twitter) to see what your favourite actors, directors, and musicians are up to.

Or if you are someone looking to enter the film industry, you are probably reaching out to multiple casting directors, getting half-hearted responses, or sometimes even getting ghosted.

“We wanted to flip the picture and bring the film industry closer to people. Why should it be so out of reach? That’s why Audition was started,” Joseph Amal, founder of Audition, tells Startup Pedia in an exclusive interview.

Founded in 2023, Audition is a Bangalore-based platform that seeks to streamline the demand and supply of the Indian film industry. It connects and creates an ecosystem of actors, fans, directors, scriptwriters, and casting directors.

AUDITION: BRINGING THE FILM INDUSTRY UNDER ONE ROOF

Just like social media platforms that offer general networking opportunities, Audition offers tailored networking opportunities for everyone in the film industry.

It solves multiple problems by acting as an end-to-end platform dedicated to aspiring actors, fans, industry professionals, and members of the film fraternity.

  1. Problem: Aspiring actors who wish to get their first big break in the film industry often have to knock on a lot of doors that are scattered across multiple mediums like Instagram, Facebook, and X.

“There is a clear absence of something that makes this process smoother and faster for an aspiring actor. For example, how do they even know the casting director they’re constantly texting is legit?” startup founder Joseph Amal explains.

Solution: As a dedicated platform, Audition makes verified casting directors and filmmakers accessible to a budding actor. Actors can create their profiles, enter their experience, upload their portfolio, and come in the direct visibility of directors and other film industry professionals. They can then apply to opportunities listed on the platform.

  1. Problem: Fans of film celebrities and the show business are often left wanting more.

“For example, if a new movie is coming up, fans of that actor eagerly wait for updates and behind-the-scenes gossip. They crave more than just formal, controlled interviews,” Joseph says.

Solution: Audition brings established and well-known celebrities closer to their fans.

Actors can share their day-to-day happenings, new projects, and release dates with their audiences. This fosters a more personal relationship between celebrities and their following. Startup founder Joseph believes that this has the potential to convert into concrete box office numbers for the actors and their films.

  1. Problem: It’s not just aspiring actors who are on the lookout for acting opportunities. Numerous casting directors struggle to find fresh faces for their movies, ad campaigns, and other film projects.

Solution: The film industry platform, Audition, establishes meaningful connections between actors, film staff, management, administration, casting directors, and film agencies.

“Film industry professionals can easily list a role they're looking to fill along with detailed specifications like age, gender, height, weight, and complexion. Actors will be able to see these gigs and apply to them. Audition will take care of the backend process of listing an opportunity and applying to it,” startup founder Joseph Amal shared in an earlier interview with Startup Pedia.

FOUNDER STORY

Hailing from the city of Bangalore, Joseph Amal completed his undergraduate degree from Loyola College in Chennai.

He studied business management and marketing at IIM Kozhikode before moving to Paris for higher studies.

“I come from a fairly well-off family. My father runs a family business of builders. I’ve always learned the importance of community and togetherness from him. I think the same manifested in my vision for creating Audition: a community of close-knitted film enthusiasts,” Joseph Amal shares.

In 2022, the entrepreneur put in his savings of Rs 2.5 lakhs to start building Audition and warming up the audience to it.

AUDITION X HOLI

On the festival of Holi 2025, Joseph Amal and his team at Audition aim to bring the platform’s benefits to everyone who is even remotely interested in films.

“Just like Holi spreads positivity and hope for new beginnings, Audition seeks to change people’s lives, support dreamers who wish to make it big in the film industry, and nurture the untapped potential people hold,” entrepreneur Joseph Amal tells Startup Pedia.

POTENTIAL IMPACT

While the film industry platform is gearing up to raise funds, startup founder Joseph Amal is confident that Audition will become a platform that brings not only the national but also the international film industry under one roof.

The company is also set to expand its office space in Bangalore.
