What is Araku coffee?
Araku coffee is grown on ancestral terroirs in the Araku highlands tucked in the Eastern Ghats of India. Pure Arabica with a rare aromatic profile, each selection makes for a smooth, well-balanced cup.
The company website invites the consumer “To slow down and savour. the notes of berry, caramel and vanilla in Grand Reserve, chocolate and spice in Signature, and the fruity Micro Climate, to begin with!”
Supported by Naandi Foundation, the brand is the first fair-trade certified homegrown coffee to bypass any middlemen and put forward an equitable system called Arakunomics.
It is a model endorsed by The Rockefeller Foundation’s ‘Food System Vision 2050 Prize’.
In 2018, the World Economic Forum shared the coffee brand’s journey, describing “how indigenous Indian farmers are fighting deforestation with gourmet coffee.”
In 2020, Araku Coffee’s Arakunomics model won The Rockefeller Foundation’s Food System Vision Prize, inviting organisations across the globe to develop a vision of a regenerative and nourishing food system they aspire to create by 2050.
In 2018, it also became the first speciality coffee from India to receive international acclaim, winning the Epicure D’or at the Prix Épicures De L’épicerie Fine Awards in France.
The brand is backed by Anand Mahindra, Rajendra Prasad Maganti, Chairman of Soma Enterprises Ltd and Manoj Kumar, CEO of Nandi Foundation.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu earlier remarked that he aspires to see Araku coffee reach the status of a global brand like Starbucks in future.
"One day, our Araku Coffee should emerge as another Starbucks. It should become an international brand. To achieve this, set up 100 pilot outlets," said Naidu, addressing a large gathering of Women’s Day celebrants in Markapuram, Prakasam district.
