All about the Wakefit IPO debut

Ahead of the debut, the company’s shares were trading at a grey market premium (GMP) of ₹7, according to Investorgain, indicating mild optimism among informal market participants.

However, that sentiment failed to translate into gains on the listing day.

The ₹1,288.89-crore initial public offering received a modest response from investors during its three-day bidding round, collecting an overall subscription of 2.52 times.

Retail investors emerged as the strongest supporters, subscribing 3.17 times their reserved quota. Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs) followed closely, bidding 3.04 times their portion. In contrast, the Non-Institutional Investor (NII) segment showed subdued interest, subscribing just 1.05 times.

The IPO comprised a fresh issue of 1.93 crore equity shares worth ₹377.18 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of 4.68 crore shares amounting to ₹911.71 crore. Through the fresh issue, Wakefit aims to fuel its next phase of growth and expansion.

At the upper price band, the IPO had a lot size of 76 shares, requiring a minimum retail investment of ₹14,820.

The issue was open for subscription from December 8 to December 10, with a price band set between ₹185 and ₹195 per share.

Proceeds from the fresh issue will be deployed across several strategic initiatives, including capital expenditure for launching 117 new company-owned, company-operated (COCO) regular stores.

The funds will also be used to meet lease and rental obligations for existing outlets, procure equipment and machinery, bolster marketing and advertising efforts, and support general corporate purposes.

Wakefit Solutions’ flat listing reflects cautious investor sentiment amid selective participation, even as the company positions itself for aggressive offline and brand-led expansion.
