Zerodha’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Kailash Nadh, has frankly admitted his dependency on artificial intelligence (AI) tools, explaining how deeply integrated large language models (LLMs) have become in his workflow.
The Profound Impact of LLMs on Productivity
At the Moneycontrol Global AI Conclave in Bengaluru, Nadh said that he can’t write code without LLMs anymore, pointing to the significant impact these AI models have had on his productivity.
“I can’t write code without LLMs anymore,” the CTO admitted. “It’s gotten to that point.”
According to him, LLMs have become like a second brain for developers, providing a substantial boost in creativity and efficiency.
Describing the use of LLMs at Zerodha, Nadh emphasized their role in simplifying code generation and debugging processes. He highlighted how these tools have transformed the way developers work, making tasks like code generation and debugging more efficient and effective.
Transforming Organizational Efficiency at Zerodha
Nadh shared a standout example of how Zerodha has leveraged LLMs to streamline its quality assurance process for customer support. By using open-source speech-to-text models and LLMs, Zerodha was able to automate the transcription and analysis of customer calls, significantly improving the efficiency of its quality assurance team.
Nadh stressed that while AI tools like LLMs have been instrumental in enhancing organizational efficiency at Zerodha, the company has not deployed generative AI models in customer-facing products. Instead, they focus on using AI to augment human capabilities and improve internal workflows.
PhonePe’s Cautious Approach to AI
On the other hand, PhonePe’s CTO Rahul Chari shared a more cautious strategy for leveraging generative AI across the board. Chari opened up about the challenges of integrating AI into critical systems, reminding the importance of reliability and predictability in their code.
PhonePe has adopted AI in non-core operations like customer support and sentiment analysis, exploring use cases that enhance operational efficiency and user experience.
Chari acknowledged the potential of AI to transform operations but emphasized the need for careful consideration and adherence to regulatory compliance.
Both Zerodha and PhonePe recognize the transformative potential of AI but approach its adoption with differing levels of enthusiasm and caution. Striking the right balance between leveraging AI capabilities and mitigating potential risks is crucial for tech companies navigating the evolving landscape of AI technologies.
