Business tycoon Anand Mahindra recently shared a viral video of Maharashtra’s Pradeep Jadhav who is using waste materials like drums, cycle rims, unused bottles, etc., to create stylish tables, chairs, clocks, etc.
Mahindra praised the spirit of the entrepreneur who runs his startup ‘Gigantiques’. He said this approach is nothing new, as it's a way of life in India.
“Nothing new. Just a way of life in India…” Mahindra wrote on X with the video attachment.
Mahindra also used the term “circular economy” to describe the genre of recycle-based entrepreneurship.
“The circular economy.
Where nothing is wasted.” Mahindra added.
The circular economy ensures materials are transformed into valuable forms that can be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, recycled, or composted, rather than being wasted. It aims to keep products and materials in use for as long as possible, preventing waste from being produced in the first place.
Founder's Background:
Pradeep Jadhav, from Dalvade village in Dhule district, pursued ITI and a diploma before landing a job. Always entrepreneurial, he first tried a bookstore and later found success making furniture from recycled tyres, inspired by a YouTube video. Balancing his job and startup, he quickly gained traction. By 2019, he left his job to focus on his business, which now employs 15 people and has completed 500 orders. His unique, eco-friendly furniture is popular in cities like Pune and Mumbai.
Social Media Reaction:
Social media users are reacting positively to Mahindra’s post.
One user wrote, “Instead of waste expenditure incurred under CSR by companies, Such an initiative should be supported by corporates…. Sir good post.”
Another user commented, “The circular economy mirrors India's age-old wisdom. For generations, Indians have masterfully repurposed, reused, and recycled, to which we call ‘Jugaad’”
A third user replied, “Any website?? It's better to sell these things all over India. It's best for restaurants or cafeterias.”
