PM Narendra Modi inaugurates SEMICON India 2025
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated SEMICON India 2025 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, on Monday, with a vision to boost India’s semiconductor ecosystem and position the country as a global hub in chip manufacturing and design.
PM Modi receives first made-in-India semiconductor chip
PM Modi on Tuesday received the country’s first made-in-India semiconductor chip at the inauguration of SEMICON India 2025.
Union IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw presented the Vikram 32-bit processor, developed by ISRO’s Semiconductor Lab, along with test chips from four approved projects.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi discussed the growing importance of semiconductors in shaping the modern world.
He said, “Oil was once considered black gold, but chips are digital diamonds,” to indicate that while the last century was driven by oil, the 21st century’s power lies in semiconductors that can accelerate global development.
At Semicon India 2025, he further added that India has semiconductor experts across the world, reflecting the global trust in India and the willingness to build the future of semiconductors together.
He welcomed all the investors and said, "The day is not far when the world will say, Designed in India, Made in India, Trusted by the World..."
PM Modi also talked about the country’s rapid progress in the semiconductor sector while addressing Semicon India 2025.
He added that the journey commenced in 2021 with the launch of the Semicon India program, followed by approval of the country’s first semiconductor plant in 2023.
In 2024, more plants were sanctioned, and by 2025, five additional projects were cleared.
Investments worth over Rs 1.5 lakh crore have been poured into ten semiconductor projects.
According to news agency ANI, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the achievement reflects the country’s rapid progress under the India Semiconductor Mission launched in 2021.
“Just a few years ago, we met for the first time to make a new beginning driven by our Prime Minister’s farsighted vision. In a short span of 3.5 years, we have the world looking at India with confidence. Today, the construction of five Semiconductor units is going on at a rapid pace…We just presented the first ‘Made-in-India’ chip to PM Modi,” he stated.
Vaishnaw added that despite global policy turmoil, India has emerged as a “lighthouse of stability and growth.”
"वो दिन दूर नहीं है, जब भारत की सबसे छोटी chip, दुनिया के सबसे बड़े change को drive करेगी।"
